| W-inkling was bound to be a word nerd. With her first book purchase (The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle), she was hooked on books. W-inkling now boasts a personal library that has strained the back of many a mover. At home, Scrabble* was the game of choice. Game play was serious: spell the word correctly without looking it up in the dictionary, or earn zero, zilch, nada points. For the fledgling and competitive W-inkling, this was the training ground for copyediting. In school, W-inkling excelled in English and Literature. She destroyed the grading curve for her disgruntled fellow students. Her high school boyfriend sent her a love letter and she sent it back to him with the spelling and grammatical errors corrected in red pen. They broke up. She went on to earn a B.A. in Communications and a Copyediting Certificate from the University of California, San Diego. W-inkling settled into a career in marketing. Naturally, she wrote and edited press releases, brochures, advertisements, newsletters, TV and radio commercials, annual reports and more. She won awards. She earned nicknames such as “Proof Mistress” and “Marketing Guru” from her co-workers. She helped companies save money and make money. She got promoted. Eventually, W-inkling realized that her focus was a tad narrow. Why share her talents with just one company, when she could start her own business and help many companies? Surely there were many otherwise fine organizations that did not know a hyphen from an en dash from an em dash! Thus was W-inkling, LLC, born.
